Robert A. Mellman

1930 - 2018

 

Robert A. Mellman, 88, of Milton, PA, passed away on November 22, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born July 31, 1930, at home in Lebanon, PA.  He was the son of the late Robert A. and Carolyn (Brooks) Mellman.  On August 23, 1959 he married Annette Zechman and together they celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Bob was a 1948 graduate of Allentown High School, a 1954 graduate of East Stroudsburg Teachers College earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Driver's Education and a 1963 graduate of Bucknell University where he earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Education.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 at Fort Carson, Colorado and in the 4th Infantry Division in Frankfurt, Germany.

He moved to Milton, PA, in September, 1956 and served at Milton Area High School for 29 years as a Health and Physical Education teacher, Driver Education Instructor, Director of the Instructional Resources Center, Assistant High School Principal, Assistant Director of Secondary Education and baseball and basketball coach.

He served as a highway safety adviser to the Pennsylvania Department of Education in 1969, was a part-time instructor at Penn State University for Driver Education from

 

1968-1970, and had served as the Assistant Baseball Coach at Bucknell University.  He was an avid golfer for many years.  He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Milton.

 In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by his children, Tod Mellman and his wife, Carla of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Lou Ann Hall and her husband, Michael of Blairsville, Georgia; five grandchildren, Michael Mellman and wife Najoua,  Kristina (Mellman) Mol and husband Hank,  Alyssa Mellman, Emily Mellman, and Leslie (Hall) McDonald and husband Anthony; four great-grandchildren, Elyas Mellman, Jordan Thompson, Amanda (Thompson) Kendra and husband, James, and Kylie McDonald; a great-great-granddaughter, Layken Kendra; a brother, David Mellman and wife, Judy of Allentown; a sister-in-law, Nancy (Zechman) Schreyer of Nashua, NH; and a brother-in-law, Paul Zechman and wife Judith of Butler.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services.  A family gathering will be held at a later time to celebrate Bob's life.

The family is being assisted by the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St. Milton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob's name may be made to the Abiding Memorial Fund of the Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 Mahoning St. Milton, PA.
