John M. “Jack” Ficks III

1931 - 2015

John M. “Jack” Ficks III, 84, of Millers Bottom Rd. New Columbia passed away on November 18, 2015.  Born in New Columbia on August 12, 1931 he was the son of the late John M. II and Martha T. (Wands) Ficks. He was married to the former Joanne L. Waltman for 63 years, until her passing in 2013

Jack attended the Ramsey School in New Columbia and worked on the switch crew at ACF in Milton before retiring in 1982.  He was the owner of Nittany Mountain campground, Nittany Mountain Lumber, and Nittany Mountain Whitetail all in new Columbia earlier he worked for Chef Boy-Ar-Dee during tomato season and for Eagle Enterprises.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Jack was very family oriented and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by five children and their spouses John and Kathy Ficks IV, Constance and John Kline, Marty & Robert Fox, Jeff and Kim Ficks and Michael and Amy Ficks, all of New Columbia; thirteen grandchildren and spouses, John Ficks V of Winfield, Matthew and Jamie Ficks of Watsontown, Samantha and Rick Russell of New Columbia, Michelle Adkins of York Haven, Heather Brinser of Liverpool, Corey and Tricia McLaughlin of Bonneau, SC, Scott and Heidi Fox of New Columbia, Todd and Alicia Fox of Jim Thorpe, Josh & Joey Ficks of Elkland, Erynn of St Petersburg, FL, Terry Rager, Bryce and Lane Ficks of New Columbia; 24 great grandchildren, John VI, Jordan, MaKenzie, Daryann, Ella, Cassondra, Ashley, Daniel, Elijah, Racii, Carley, Sierra, McKenna, Cody, Eathen, Leda, Klaire, Cade, Mauve, Brielle, Hazel, Jace, Deven, and Kelise; and eight great-great grandchildren, Kyleigh, John VII, Lillian, Charlotte, Audree, Claudia, Everleigh, and Spencer.

Jack was preceded in death by a brother Wilmer B. Ficks

Friends and relatives will be received from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday November 21 at the Shaw Funeral Home 400 N. Front St. Milton, with the funeral following at 11a.m.  Officiating will be Rev. Daniel Hicks. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Milton.

In lieu of flowers donations are requested to Evangelical Hospice, 130 Hospital Dr. Lewisburg, PA 17837.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was a very nice man and even helped me when my car broke down. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My sincere sympathy to all of you. Uncle Jack was a wonderful, kind, caring, and talented man and I truly loved him and will ALWAYS remember the great times together and his infectious laugh and smile.

As friends of the Ficks family for almost 40 years, we morn for and with you the loss of Jack. And then we rejoice knowing that he is with our Load Jesus and has his beloved Joanne by his side again. It will never be the same at our cabin in the woods, and we'll always look up the lane hoping to see him there.
