Florence E. Snyder

1939 - 2019

Florence E. Snyder, 79, of Swanger Rd. New Columbia, passed away on March 8, 2019 at UPMC Susquehanna.  Born in Lewisburg on July 2, 1939 she was the daughter of the late James A. Sr. and Sarah A. (Kline) Swanger.  She was married to Clair F. Snyder who preceded her in death in 1997. 


Florence attended Milton Schools and worked at the Milton Shoe Factory and at JPM in Lewisburg fro 39 years.  She was a member of United in Christ Lutheran Church formerly St. John’s Lutheran in West Milton.  She enjoyed the outdoors, jig saw puzzles, and word search puzzles.  Florence will be missed by everyone she knew.


She is survived by a son, James D. Snyder of New Columbia and fiancée Donna Harmon of Watsontown; two brothers, Dale Swanger of New York, and Bruce Swanger and companion Debra Bright of Northumberland; two sisters, Gail Guffey and husband Ronald of New Columbia, and Kelly Ottenmiller and husband Robert of Troy; a sister in law, Deb Blair of Watsontown; a step-sister, Norma Jean York of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews, and her grand-cat, Buddy, who she adored.


Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Clair; a brother James A. Swanger Jr.; her stepmother, Sarah C. Swanger; a stepbrother, Robert Fetter; and a sister in law, Marlene Swanger.


Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday March 12 in White Deer Cemetery in West Milton.  Officiating will be the Rev. Justin Lingenfelter.


Florence was a class mate of mine in the Milton schools. My sympathy to her family.
