She is survived by two sons, Dr. James K. Fleming and wife Rose M. Fleming of Burlington, NC and David B. Fleming and partner Michael A. Shuman of Camp Hill; two grandchildren, Angela R. Prudhomme and husband Alexandre of Columbia, MD and Chad D. Fleming and wife Chele of Burlington, NC; two step-grandchildren, Tonya W. Tubbs and Tanya C. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean I. Emsweller and brother, Walter R. Denius.

Esther was a 1943graduate of Milton High School and was employed by the Milton Area School District, Assistant to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Bucknell University, and Assistant to the Executive Director of the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit from which she retired.

Esther was always actively involved in her community.  She was a lifelong member of St. Johns United Church of Christ where she served as a member of the consistory, as an Elder and Deacon, and taught Sunday school for many years.  She was elected and served on the Board of Directors for the Milton Area School District, the Board of Directors to the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit and on the Board of Directors to the Milton Public Library. Esther supported her community as a member of the Milton Historical Society and a past member of the Milton Women’s Club.

She was passionate about her faith and devoted to her family. Esther enjoyed walking and playing pinochle and bridge with friends. She was an avid reader, and loved working crossword puzzles.  She was also an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed attending games.  Her gentle wisdom, quiet strength, and generous hospitality were evident to all who met her, indicative of how special and kind of a lady she was and will always be remembered.

The family would like to send a special thanks to all the RiverWoods staff who provided extraordinary care to our beloved “Moanie.”

Friends and relatives will be received on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at St. John’s United Church of Christ, New Columbia.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 with the Rev. Bonni Lucas officiating.  Burial will follow in Milton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 906 Old Route 15, New Columbia, PA 17856.

Condolences

David ... It has been so many years since I worked with you and your mother back in the "good old days" of the CSIU, but I will always remember her work ethic, her quiet humor, her dedication, and her poise. She certainly lived a full life and will live on in the hearts of all of you. My thoughts are with you. Mary Catherman

Dave,

As you go through this very sad time in your life, hold dear to all the wonderful memories, laughter, and love that she created in your life. It was long ago when at the CSIU our paths crossed....and how glad I am to carry those memories. I will always remember her genuine gracious nature, pleasant disposition and kindness. And what a “classy lady” she was! My thoughts are with you Dave. Please do contact me ...it would be great sharing the memories!

David, Jim and Families,

My condolences to you all. I remember your Mother very well as a neighbor and a coworker with my Dad at the Milton School System. She was always so nice to us neighborhood kids when we were growing up and my Dad always had the highest respect for her.
Even though her passing is difficult for the family now, she's now in God's arms and at peace. Bless you all.

Sincerely,
Scott Mauger
